The Darwinian research programme the dominated natural science in the XX century is defined as the “Modern Synthesis”, a name that suggested the fusion of the central core of the Darwinian theory – casual variation and natural selection – with In his famous work The genetical theory of natural selection, Fisher proved that the genetic basis of evolution could be extended to those traits, such as height, that do not appear to be transmitted in a Mendelian manner. I'll cite one of many articles that speak of its demise. And last but not least, according to most evo devo and even a great many mainstream evolutionary biologist, the modern synthesis is effectively dead as a theory. Arnhart accuses Mazur of hysterical hatred of evolution, baloney. Müller, eds., Evolution: The Extended Synthesis. Will the new paradigm as in the proposed extended synthesis (ala the Altenberg 16) answer the questions that need to be answered? She is never hysterical, if anything too mild, and never against evolution. Evolution - the Extended Synthesis Ebook By Massimo Pigliucci, Gerd B. If we did all that, it wouldn't be a revolution — because it would embrace everything that is already in evolution — but would be what Pigliucci calls the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis. Well only time will tell, but again, one thing is certain, and that is, the modern synthesis as taught now is a house of cards. This is the picture that emerges from evo-devo, epigenetics, comparative genomics, and other developments that feed what some researchers are calling the Extended Synthesis of evolution theory. Would recommend reading Evolution, the Extended Synthesis (2010) edited by Massimo Pigliucci and Gerd B Műller and published by The MIT Press. Of course there is a new new new new new synthesis. He has a forthcoming book titled Evolution: The Extended Synthesis (co-edited with Gerd Muller, M.I.T. The Evolution of Individuality. Every single time someone publishes original research in evolution the "synthesis" is renewed. The edition contains a foreword by the biologists Gerd Muller and Massimo Pigliucci (authors of Evolution: the Extended Synthesis, always from MIT) that explains facets of the actuality of the book.
